Reading

For this week I hadn't been able to attend our lecture on Thursday but had been made aware of what was being done. I know previous weeks the reading tasks had been used to write up on your sections of different themes in paragraphs. I feel the idea of an e-book with all the research the students have done is a great idea.                                                                       (Image:  gaming ) I don't know at this stage if it's possible me adding mine part I had worked on it but feel I perhaps left it a little late. I do feel it was good experience working on a piece and doing your own research. I don't feel like it's something I would be in a rush to do again as i felt the readings had been quite time consuming as the research is such a major component. I do find it great now knowing how t...

Tech Task- Sound Cloud

For this task I found it easy enough once I found videos to help me find how I embed a soundcloud into blogger. It is quite simple you go into the piece of music you want to share and click share. You should see the Embed word and from there you will see the code. Copy and paste that into the HTML page on blogger and that's it.  Thanks for Reading! Mimi Webb · Good Without

Technical Difficulty

For some reason my posts have been saying their posted and then when I go to recheck it there not posted. Honestly don't know why it's happening even after I log out and back in on blogger. It's rather frustrating!

Tech Task

Image
I was trying to think what would be an easy enough task for me to do. I'm still not the biggest fan of twitter but my housemates live on it. So I thought why not make a Twitter List with them and we can use it to share memes and other funny things on twitter.                                                             (Screenshot from my twitter) Thanks for Reading!

This week we were meant to read two of our peers work and give back some critical feedback. While also adding our own work into the doc shaun has open for all of us. I have been terrible with letting people read my work. I have asked one or two people in my course to read mine and give me feedback. I had forgotten to ask Shaun to add me to the list. I know feedback is important because what you read and someone else reads you have two different views and opinions. I will be adding my work to the doc tonight once I get in contact with shaun. This semester is just flying by.                                                                                  ( Image ) I was told I have had a few spelling mistakes throughout my doc. Honestly i'm not surprised. I have tried to implement ...

Google Timer! Did you even know that was a thing because I didn't. Honestly I didn't realize google could do as much as it can. Feel a little stupid saying that. You can little do it in a matter of seconds and its not complicated what so ever. You just google 'Timer:2 minutes'. Whatever time it is you want.  (screenshot) Thanks for Reading!

Unity Tutorial

Image
One of the last Unity Tutorials. As I said before I'll be honest I could of put more effort into unity this semester. I do feel like it was easier than last semesters unity tutorials once I spent some time at them. It was touch and go at some stages with things crashing for me.  One of the parts for this week was called Audio. It essentially allowed you to add audio to different game objects. It's honestly a really nice touch to a game.                                                                (Screenshot of script) I do think getting to read the instructions on how to do the game instead of watching videos has definitely been easier. I guess that's all from me now with the Unity Tutorials.  Thanks for Reading!

For this week we we were meant to write our introduction and then our conclusion. I feel maybe I've done some of this the wrong way around. I always find when doing research even for myself I want an idea what it is i'm looking for. Even when I picked my title for what I'm writing about. I wanted it to be something I was genuinely interested in. It is something I would like to have some general knowledge on that stands to me in some sort of way.  I found the videos left for us to watch very useful. One thing that stood out was the difference between a introduction and a conclusion. An introduction prepares the reader for what they are about to read but the conclusion is a brief review on what they have learnt. This is something even in secondary school I would find hard to properly state within a conclusion.                                                ...

Tech Task

This week I gave it a go to learn how to do a Google Reverse Image Search. It was actually alot simpler than I imagined.  Down below you'll see an image I had.  You then look up 'Google Images'. From there you click on the camera icon to search by image. You can either search from a URL or you can upload an image you may have on your desktop.  Then you should be able to find the results from your image.  Thanks For Reading!

I have been finding the readings hard. I like the writing element It's mostly been finding the research. I know it's important to get feedback. I feel weird with the idea of people reading something I've written with the fear it may look shocking.  I know for this weeks task we were to be put into a 'Triad' and get feedback from 3 other people. I sort of realized this later into the week and me being terrible with checking my slack. I did ask for some feedback off of 3 people one within my college course and two and home and some of the feedback I got was to add more flare to my intoduction and paragraphs. To really emphasise what it is that they will learn without giving away too much of the research initially. Here's hoping I can improve on this.  Thanks for Reading!

Unity Tutorial

Image
Unity Tutorial 6 wasn't as bad as I expected. Some of the tutorials have been a bit touch and go for me. at one point I had done a chunk of the unity tutorials but got extremely bad at even doing my blog posts. Don't know what it is about my motivation this semester. Knowing know that there aren't many unity tutorials left to do this semester is a big bonus.  I did find the unity tutorials I did this semester weren't as bad as the ones we had to do last semester. I do find it easier to read the step by step instructions as opposed to watching a video. I found that alot more time consuming.  One of the parts for this weeks tutorial was Visual Styling. It allowed you to be able to see the characters health during the game. It meant you lost health if you got in contact with an enemy and you gained health when picking up the health collectable.                                     ...

Reading 'Doing'

Image
During this week I had to discover themes within  my Annotated Bibliography. I have been finding these reading tasks harder than what we did last semester. This part I didn't find as time consuming as other times. At first I was unsure how to proceed with doing it but I felt with the video in the class website it helped a-lot.   Themes I discovered:  Red: Purpose/Unpurposeful  Green: Games for leisure or instrumental  Orange: Meta Analysis  This week had been extremely hectic. I feel like I keep trying to catch up with myself and it can be a little overwhelming. There is more work I need to add to my research but it is just a matter of sitting down and giving myself the time to do that. Hopefully next week I can be more organized.  Thanks for Reading!

Unity Tutorial 5

Image
During the Unity tutorial this week I found it hard. I've been finding it difficult to motivate myself with college work in general this semester. I found  with this tutorial I had issues with unity itself crashing.                                                          (Screenshot from the game) I like how in this game 'Ruby's Adventures' that the whole point of the game is to go and fix the robots that had become broken and initially i couldn't even figure out why unity was crashing. I did struggle with some of the coding for this and did feel it was rather time consuming. I feel in general the unity tutorials usually are. After having last weekend doing GameJam and then jumping onto another unity tutorial I feel a little overwhelmed. I did enjoy parts of this game like the above photo sorting the robots. This was defenitely some...

Beta

Happy to say I am pretty much finished my game after another tweak or two. I got there eventually after come hiccups with my script but I feel like I got there in the end. I have to say this semester has been has been interesting and I'm glad I pushed myself to not give up with this game even though it was definitely challenging at times.  My current tasks over the last week that I wanted to achieve with my game was the menu to pick a puzzle of your choosing. I debated for a while if I should give the option of the playing picking the puzzle they want or you just complete one click next puzzle and you've no choice in the matter.  I feel giving the player a choice gives more of the relaxed feel that I personally wanted from the game. Im sure it's obvious from reading my posts that It's a game I think would be nice for a changed from against the clock kind of games. Overall I really enjoyed this experience! I didn't get as much of the game done that I would of liked....

Games Testing

Image
For our reading task it is all about games testing and the importance of having a go at playing the game yourself and taking your time with the process.  I definitely agree that it is important to test your game throughout the process. It makes it easier aswel to track your process and it can get extremely boring just looking at a screen of code! The first article was  7 different types of game testing . This article introduced us to different ways game testing can be applied to a game. when testing a game it's important to look out for bugs in the game, graphic bugs and possibly any visual or audio issues. This is called Functionality testing .This is normally done when the game is almost finished with the coding. I watched one of the videos given to us  How to playtest . This video was a nice change from reading an article. The video went through the importance of play testing a game. It is an important step through the development process. It discussed how it is ...

Project Alpha

This game has been a great achievement and also the greatest pain.   I honestly think I would of been extremely lost without the youtube videos that I found to help me and also the unity tutorials. They have been a blessing. I wanted to give up some days I just couldn't seem to get the puzzles to assemble properly. I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. I went back over the tutorials and honestly gave up for a good two days. I think I spent 2 hours trying to figure out different ways to rectify it. Turns out it was a step I completely missed. Shows you that it's a good idea to take a short break from things and come back it gives you some perspective.  I can imaging that gaming developers also have to do similar things. I can't imaging they get everything right the first time round. Obviously that's why it can take so long for games to come out. It has definitely been nice to see what it would be like. I remember there was an evening I had a nap and was lite...

Unity Tutorial 06

Image
Unity Tutorials the part of the week I don't know if I dread or love. Seeing as my gaming idea is more so based on a puzzle I had been attempting to do unity tutorials based on this to help get the most out of my gaming idea. It's been a struggle. For one getting photos that best suit and trying to get them to separate properly. I did find some really good youtube videos. My best friend honestly!  I found some youtube videos that were basically episodes of steps and tricks in how to do puzzles or even jigsaw puzzles. They were so useful! They honestly gave me a-lot of inspiration and it helped make the process that little bit easier also. Unity has been a really great tool to use when making these games. It's been frustrating and a challenge in a good way. (Screenshot) I'll leave links down below to the videos I was referring to incase anyone would ever like to take a look! Link 1: Puzzle video Link 2:  Puzzle Video 2 Link 3:  Puzzle Video 3 Thanks for Reading!

Review Week Comments and Feedback

Overall I think the feedback I received from other students was quite positive. It was lovely to see other comments from other people on my posts especially when it came to my gaming ideas and process. Getting feedback on things they would perhaps like to see as a user was extremely helpful. Those were the comments that I found the most useful. It was obviously easy for me to decide on a game idea that I like but it was good to see feedback and if it was something that people might actually enjoy.  Feedback I gave out I liked this. Reading other peoples posts and ideas and giving some of my thoughts. I feel with feedback between people it's important because there could be something that your missing that another person would spot. Reading other peoples posts has honestly given me inspiration and i've really enjoyed it.  It's has been really nice seeing people's blogs and even just having a little bit of interaction with people you may not of gotten a chance to talk a-...

Reading and Writing

Image
Over the last few weeks I have felt like this module has been challenging at times. It hasn't all been that simple where you just read and write. I feel you need to have some sort of understanding. With some of the readings over the last few weeks I have had to really take my time. I consider myself to be a pretty fast reader. I love to read. Throw a book in-front of me and if I really like it i'll have it finished in a night. These readings have obviously been different. I've never thought of myself as a gamer or wanting to learn things related to it but here I am finding myself learning and taking an interest. Well trying I can get distracted quite easily sometimes. Having the intro voice messages from shaun every week has been really helping with what he wants from us. The last 3 weeks doing the readings in a group has made it less time consuming and less stress so that's always a win.  I honestly think my biggest accomplishment with this class is staying consistent...

First Playable

My Prototype is coming along slowly but surly. I had a period there where I found it hard to work. Personally my motivation wasn't there. I have been finding some aspects difficult and it's taking time with getting the puzzle pieces to scatter correctly in order to then arrange it properly. I've been trying to attempt things suggested by other students like adding a timer and or possibly music to set the tone and mood for the game. I've spent a-lot of time watching youtube videos and doing research on any unity coding to suit my game.  I'm still confident I can get my Puzzle game up and running the way I have imagined in my head it's just a matter of putting all the pieces together correctly. I feel I have to put in some extra work with some time that I lost which has ended up stressing me out. Once I stick to my plan of action I think everything will work out. Atleast that's what i'm hoping.                        ...
